The U.S. Department of Transportation announced on July 7, 2026, that it will direct $1.73 billion toward 127 infrastructure projects spread across 52 states, territories, and the District of Columbia — the latest round of federal BUILD grant funding under the Trump administration.
Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy framed the investment as a commitment to connecting communities with the physical infrastructure they depend on. “America is fortunate to have a Builder in the White House who knows America is only as great as our infrastructure. That’s why this Department is investing in repairing critical roads and bridges that connect Americans to job opportunities, port infrastructure that bolsters our national security, and aviation and transit projects that move American families. The impact of these dollars will be felt in communities nationwide for years to come,” Duffy said.
The bulk of the money — $1.3 billion, or roughly 77% of total funding — will flow to road and bridge improvements, targeting freight corridors and commuter routes that have deteriorated over time.
Among the specific awards, North Dakota will receive $24 million to modernize pavement along Interstate 94 and install 10 miles of high-tension cable guard rails designed to improve highway safety.
The grants come from the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) program, which funds roadway, transit, rail, maritime, and aviation projects at the state and local level.
